At Englemel Rose, books are alive. Some of these books, called tomes, contain the souls of criminals and dangerous magic-wielders.
Tasked with protecting these books and the knowledge within them, Skyseers are the librarians of Englemel, but they are also its guardians.
A young Skyseer named Phyliri, recently promoted to the coveted role of Starkeeper (blackmail may or may not have been involved), must use her magic, her wits, and the secret tomes she carries to prevent a war from breaking out between her country and the South.
But stories are Phyliri's lifeblood, and she knows villains sometimes win. And heroes always fall.
