What if the Library of Alexandria was rebuilt?
I’m gonna shock you here, but, I really love books. I know, nobody could have guessed. I give off such an opposite vibe that my nickname at church camp in middle school definitely wasn’t “the librarian” (I blame the cardigans…and the glasses…and the scarves…).
Given this love of all things literature, it makes sense that I love the concept of magical books and magical libraries. Englemel Rose is the product of that fascination.
To me, Englemel is sort of like if the Library of Alexandria burned down, and in response to this, a dedicated group of warrior librarians rebuilt the Library in another land. But this time, they were determined to never let history repeat itself. How protective would these guardians be of the knowledge within the rebuilt library? Protective enough to ban every citizen from owning an enchanted book, and to only allow those same citizens access to the books while under the safeguard of their fortress, Englemel Rose.
My writer brain began to whir. How would this affect politics? Education? Crime? If knowledge is power, how would Englemel struggle against the machinations of the Crown to retain that power? How would the surrounding lands be affected by this hoarding of magic and knowledge?
Shameless plug incoming. If you want answers to these theoretical questions, might I recommend my book, The King’s Starkeeper. Enter the enchanted library of Englemel Rose, and remember, a Skyseer fears nothing.
